What's In and What's Out for 2025

April 4, 2025

Seems like bride's today are asking for a non-wedding wedding. Gone are the days of the "Electric Slide" and tossing the coveted bridal bouquet. Brides no longer look like the cast of the "Stepford Wives" all dressed in clad. The plated dinner has also gone to the wayside being replaced with unique options such as more casual taco trucks and pasta bars. Traditional wedding cakes don't have to be the norm anymore as couples are looking for more creative and fun options. Churros! Fried Oreos! Cake Pops! Cheesecakes Stations... Yes, please! Nothing is off limits. Traditional venues are being overshadowed by local barns, distilleries and picturesque backdrops such as beach weddings or mountaintop nuptials. Couples are even opting for a more intimate celebration of their unique love story with only close family and friends.

What's In

1. To-Go Wedding Cake Slices and Dessert Stations

Dessert is one of the most anticipated parts of any meal and why should it be any different on your wedding day? Although most people think of a tiered cake covered in white icing, tradition doesn't have to limit you on your big day. Brides today are opting for dessert bars, on-the-go pre sliced cakes to even mini desserts which are not only aesthetically pleasing, but easy to handle. Whether you want your guests to peruse a colorful candy-filled station or make their own ice cream sundaes, dessert is a time to have fun and wow your loved ones with these unique ideas.

2. Friday Weddings

There are so many reasons why a couple might decide to get married on a Friday night: the pricing is generally more affordable, they have their hearts set on a particular venue (but every Saturday night was booked), or they want to break with tradition. Wedding savings can add up quickly when you consider the more cost-effective vendor rates and travel rates (for flights and hotels if you're not local).

3. Drone Shows

Compared to sparklers and fireworks which are frequently used as a sendoff in many weddings, drone light shows reduce the fire risk and add an extra level of excitement and drama. Drone shows are designed around the theme of love and marriage, featuring shapes such as hearts, champagne glasses and wedding rings. They can be customized to add a couple's personal touch with their initials lighting up the sky, creating a one-of-a kind experience for all to see.

4.Over-the-Top Guest Dress Codes

Wedding dress codes are getting specific with 'guest color palettes,' a trend which is on the rise. You will see this right up there with oyster bars and cake pops at the reception. While bridesmaids are getting more leeway with their attire, guests are being asked to consider a dress code. Today's invitations are including phrases such as " whimsical garden party" or "tropical formal." While wearing a similar color palette or following a theme, today's brides find it more aesthetically pleasing if guests follow their request.

5. Statement Veils

I’ve been a fan of veils for a looooong time, but there’s nothing quite like the statement kind. Similar to the impact that statement jewelry makes, statement veils do the same thing - they umm, make a statement. A big one. Brides today are choosing veils that say, "I’m the bride, I don’t need an introduction.” Mic drop. While the dress is certainly the star of the day, these veils kind of steal all the thunder. So brides that do opt for something with statement status, often choose a more minimal gown.

6. The Year of the Mini

Honey, we shrunk it. All of it. From bouquets to cakes and afterparty dresses, 2024 is the year of the mini. These pint sized details are delivering big! Who says no to a mini cone of french fries attached to a champagne flute? Not us. This is an easy trend for brides to embrace regardless of the party they're throwing. Once reserved only for civil weddings, mini wedding gowns are now experiencing a moment of glory. Short wedding dresses are one of the biggest trends that are emerging in recent years.

7. Restaurant receptions

If you and your partner are foodies and you're looking for a wedding venue with a little more personality than your typical ballroom, look no further than your favorite local restaurant. Celebrating with friends and family and one of your favorite spots to dine with have them leaving happy...and full!

What's Out

1.Sweetheart Tables

The trend of exclusive sweetheart tables is waning. Couples are opting to celebrate with friends and family, choosing communal dining experiences over an isolated table for two. We love this trend. You get to spend the rest of your life eating with your spouse. This is one of the only times all your friends and family are here to celebrate you—why not dine with them?

2. Farewell Brunches

The last thing guests desire after a long celebratory weekend is another formal event, especially one that takes place the morning after an all-night party. Many couples are choosing to skip the farewell brunch and embrace the tranquility of a well-deserved break.

3. Large Bridal Parties

We have seen a shift in smaller and more intimate guest counts, and as a result, smaller bridal parties. A smaller bridal party of your closest inner circle allows for more quality time and ease throughout the day, from getting ready together to group photos prior to the festivities.

4.Traditional Cake Cuttings

Rather than a traditional cake cutting, many couples are looking for creative alternatives for a unique spin on tradition and for those who aren’t cake lovers: dessert stations, a silent cutting, or skipping it altogether to make way for late-night food.

5.Matching Bridesmaid Dresses

Coordinating mismatched bridesmaid dresses, is a great way to incorporate each bridesmaids' personal style and preference into the wedding day ensemble. This allows the bridal party to look cohesive without looking overly uniform. Many brides are going all out - mismatching different fabrics, colors and patterns.

6.Guest Books

When was the last time you've seen one being filled out in recent years? The idea is thoughtful, but most people are focusing on their cocktails while socializing and enjoying the party. Digital wedding guest books are redefining the role of guests at weddings. No longer mere spectators, your loved ones become active participants in creating a rich mosaic of memories.

When it comes to weddings, some brides and grooms are all about tradition. The cake, the vows, grandma’s veil, something old something new… But as weddings get more personalized, many couples are taking a second look at wedding traditions. They’re not afraid to toss out a custom they feel is outdated or unnecessary. After all, your wedding day should ultimately feel like a really personal celebration of who you are.
